Welcome to my blog

This is a whole new experience for me. I never thought I'd be a blogger but here I am. I love anything to do with the Old West so I thought I'd start a blog about famous cowboys and indians.

A few years ago my fiance and I moved from Florida to Wyoming. Until that time I'd had never met a real cowboy. I quickly discovered that cowboys are genuine folks and they live a rugged lifestyle.

But now I'm back in Florida again and I'm missing the simpler way of life. So just for fun I'll always post interesting facts about cowboys from the past.

Annie Oakley

Annie Oakley has to be my favorite person from the Old West. Could you just imagine a small woman like her shooting a gun the way she did? Heck, I'd pay any amount of money to see that, but most people just paid a nickel. Her birth name was Phobe Ann Moses and she was born in Ohio in 1860. Her Father died when she was very young and her Mother couldn't take care of her. She was sent to what they used to call a "Poor Farm". Once she turned 15 she went back to live with her Mom again and had to learn to shoot animals to survive.

She loved going to shooting shows and that's about the time she met Frank Butler. He convinced her to go on the road with him and they formed an act together. Phoebe took her paternal Grandmother's name and became Annie Oakley.

Buffalo Bill

Buffalo Bill is one of my favorite cowboys. He must of been quite a character. It's amazing to think of how famous he became just by word of mouth. Not only in America but across the ocean as well. He gave several command performances to Queen Victoria. William F. Cody earned the nickname "Buffalo Bill" because he shot over 5,000 buffaloes in the course of his lifetime.
